Rev. Donovan K. Jenkins is the first born child of our former pastor, Dr. Donovan Jenkins and Sis. Becky Lancaster-Jenkins. Rev. Donovan K. Jenkins, better known as Rev. Don, was born on May 7, 1980. He was born and raised in the city of Absanie. From an early age, he was gifted with the ability of public speaking, winning a number of debates during his high school tenure. He was also asked to be the keynote speaker at several assemblies at his high school. He attended school in the Bagley Independent School District, Delany Elementary School and Delany High School. He was the high school salutatorian when he graduated in 1992. Rev. Don further his education at Maas Stewart University in Petersburg. He graduated Magnum Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Business Administration in Management from the school. While at Maas Stewart University, Rev. Don was called into the ministry. He reluctantly accepted his calling, stating, "There were enough ministers in my family. Why did God want to put another one in the family?" He attended Person-Manigold Theological Seminary in Hardaway. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Ministry and a Master's Degree in Biblical Studies. He maintained a 3.85 GPA in both courses of study. In 1999, Rev. Don was ordained as a minister. He came back to Absanie Baptist Church and began working tirelessly in the ministry. In late 2005, Dr. Jenkins announced that he was going to step down as the pastor of Absanie Baptist Church to become the full time president of the Maddocha Baptist Churches Association. The search for a pastor began. The assistant pastor at that time, Rev. James Clark, III was not interested in the position. One of the mothers of the church suggested Rev. Don. After three months, the church unanimously voted Rev. Don as the pastor. He was installed in February 2006. He appointed his longtime friend, Rev. James Clark, IV as the assistant pastor. He married Prudence Collier in 2000. They have two children, Donovan Tatum and Miriam. Sis. Prudence is a second grade reading teacher. |
